About Us
Insight that strengthens services and improves lives.
Transparent Governance was founded on the belief that strong governance is not bureaucracy — it is the backbone of safe, confident, values‑led care. Our work is driven by a simple principle: insight strengthens services, and strengthened services improve lives. Everything we do is shaped by real‑world experience, deep sector knowledge, and a commitment to clarity, accountability, and professional judgement.
The consultancy is led by a practitioner whose career began long before the modern regulatory landscape existed. Starting out as a Nursing Auxiliary at Sunderland Royal Infirmary, Krystian worked across dermatology, orthopaedics, general surgery, and acute elderly medicine, specialising in hypothermia care and dementia support. These were formative years — hands‑on, pre‑CQC, pre‑CSCI even — where quality was defined by teamwork, reasoning, and the ability to truly understand the people you were caring for.
After relocating to the Midlands, Krystian worked across nursing agencies before moving into frontline homelessness work with The Salvation Army in East London. Supporting people experiencing street homelessness brought a new dimension to his practice: the intersection of health, safeguarding, trauma, and social systems. It was here that the foundations of his governance philosophy began to take shape — clarity, fairness, and the courage to address what others overlook.
His first management role came in Supported Living, overseeing 120 flats across three London boroughs for people with mental health needs. The work focused on helping individuals transition from supported accommodation into general needs housing, while also managing three care‑leaver hostels. This period cemented his understanding of risk, autonomy, and the importance of proportionate, person‑centred decision‑making.
From there, Krystian moved into managing CQC‑registered services across mental health, forensics, intellectual disabilities, and later learning disability services for people living with dementia. These roles demanded a balance of operational leadership, safeguarding literacy, and regulatory awareness — long before “governance” became a sector buzzword. They also shaped his belief that quality is never achieved through paperwork alone; it is achieved through culture, clarity, and competent leadership.
Over the last decade, Krystian has worked extensively with local authorities in a range of roles, from supporting DCLG commissioners through corporate investigations to stabilising fragile provider markets and strengthening oversight systems. This work has given him a unique vantage point: understanding the pressures on providers, the expectations of commissioners, and the realities of a sector navigating complexity, scrutiny, and change.
Today, Transparent Governance brings all of this experience together. We support providers, commissioners, and leaders to understand what is really happening in their services, interpret risk with confidence, and build governance frameworks that stand up to scrutiny. Our approach is analytical but practical, direct but supportive, and always grounded in evidence and professional reasoning.
We work with organisations of all sizes — from independent residential care and nursing homes to supported living providers, home care services, and local authorities. What they share is a commitment to doing things properly. Our role is to bring structure, clarity, and insight to that ambition.
As the sector continues to evolve, so does our work. Transparent Governance exists to help organisations navigate uncertainty, strengthen their internal capability, and build services that are safe, sustainable, and aligned with their values. At the heart of everything we do is a belief shaped by decades of practice: when governance is done well, people’s lives improve.
